Ember Covenant
Ember Covenant is the kind of RPG that sneaks up on you. It opens slow with a small village and one wandering mercenary, but within a few chapters you've got a full party and a surprisingly layered plot about broken oaths. The turn-based combat is readable and tactical without being punishing, and skill cooldowns make every fight a tiny puzzle.
The thing I liked most is how much the writing respects your attention. Dialogue is snappy, characters have distinct voices, and side quests actually tie into the main story instead of being padding. On a phone, the menus are a touch busy, but once you learn where things live, it flows.
Progression is generous. You rarely feel stuck, and the crafting system is optional enough that you can ignore it if you just want the story. For a mobile RPG, it's remarkably complete.
